Faith and belonging
MSIS provides space to explore Islamic teachings, ask questions, and find encouragement in a community grounded in mercy, respect, and collective responsibility.
MSIS began as a student initiative to provide a supportive environment for Muslim students at UiS. Today, we champion faith-informed student life through programming, advocacy, and collaboration across the university.
We are a non-profit, politically independent organization. Everything we do is guided by our members and grounded in the core values of Islam: compassion, knowledge, and community care.
MSIS is open to every Muslim student at the University of Stavanger. We design programs that support personal growth and proudly invite non-Muslim peers into respectful dialogue and shared learning.
MSIS provides space to explore Islamic teachings, ask questions, and find encouragement in a community grounded in mercy, respect, and collective responsibility.
We represent Muslim perspectives within UiS decision-making, liaise with StOr, and work with SiS to ensure student welfare services respond to our community’s needs.
Dialogues, panel talks, and study sessions invite friends across beliefs to learn together and challenge stereotypes through authentic conversations.
Our constitution outlines how MSIS is structured, how decisions are made, and how we uphold accountability. It emphasises independence, transparent finances, and the importance of building bridges with the wider student environment.
MSIS values cross-campus partnerships. We coordinate with UiS administration, SiS, student chaplaincy, and peer organizations to co-create events and advocate for inclusive facilities and services.
Through joint initiatives we demonstrate how Muslim students contribute thoughtfully to the broader university life and to Stavanger’s multicultural identity.
A dedicated volunteer board leads MSIS each academic year. These roles work closely as a team and are supported by committees and volunteers.
